Positive Personal Influence
As the knowledge era rapidly replaces the industrial era,
major changes are taking place in organizations. One of the more
fundamental changes is that both organizations and the people
in them are becoming more networked. A key consequence is that
people's ability to drive results will depend on their ability
to influence others without relying on formal authority. As organizational
hierarchies become less visible, today's leaders -- in fact,
everyone responsible for results -- will have to be able to work
well with people at all levels to both survive and thrive in
the 21st century.
Some call it network leadership. Some call it peer leadership.
Some call it peer influence. We call it Winning Ways:
Positive Personal Influence.
The workshop is derived from the principles presented in Dick
Lyles' highly acclaimed book entitled Winning Ways -- Four
Secrets for Getting Great Results by Working Well with People.
This program will help employees at all levels become more
effective in dealing with others to produce results -- without
having to rely on position power. It will help them to learn
strategies they can use to produce short- and long-term results
while nurturing long-term relationships. An added benefit is
that it helps to unleash the full potential of anyone who has
great ideas, but struggles to get them accepted or acted upon
in today's competitive corporate environment.
Description
The program consists of a set of pre-workshop materials that
participants are expected to complete in advance of the workshop,
including a text of Winning Ways. A comprehensive workbook
is used during the workshop itself. The workbook contains complete
note-taking pages, additional handouts and notes, a personal
learning journal, and a detailed action planning section to facilitate
back-home application.
The Context
The context of the workshop is presented through the framework
that CHEMISTRY plus EXECUTION equals EFFECTIVENESS)
both short- and long-term). Issues of chemistry are dealt with
by understanding different personality temperaments and how different
people with varied temperaments affect each other when working
together. Execution is addressed through the strategies of Winning
Ways. Taken together, the use of the various strategies,
when applied in the context of differing mixes of temperaments,
results in the development of powerful working relationships
that both drive results and last. When everyone applies these
ideas, the result is a highly collaborative and synergistic work
environment that is not dependent on a strong and oppressive
hierarchy. Both individual attendees and organizations benefit
when people attend the workshop.
